About Play Therapy

All about Play Therapy

What is Play Therapy?

Play therapy is not just about "having fun playing." Child Centered Play Therapy is an evidence-based therapy method that is developmentally appropriate for children aged 3-10.

Children are not good at articulating, verbalizing and explaining their complex inner world, but instead, they express and resolve emotional conflicts through their natural form of communication, "play".

"Play" allows children to create enough distance from their emotionally intense experiences, which helps them to feel safer to explore and gain understanding of their complex inner world.

Play therapists are trained professionals who can create "safety within relationships." In a relationship characterized by warmth, understanding and acceptance, children are not only able to digest their experiences but also find themselves once again for who they are born to be. It is believed this discovery, will lead us to becoming more resilient.

But most of all, children love coming to play therapy!

*** Depending on your child's age and needs, other forms of therapy may be incorporated (such as art therapy, expressive therapy and Internal Family Systems therapy.)
